Earlier this week one of my friends asked why I stopped blogging and it really made me think about that… I was certainly a more dedicated blogger when I had my old TRP blog – this one has taken me a bit longer to get into a writing rhythm. I started this blog after having a terrible health scare. And since it’s Breast Cancer Awareness month, I would be remiss if I didn’t urge everyone to help support finding a cure and also make sure you are going to regular check-up ladies! Men, check-in on your loved to make sure they are going!!!
Ok, sorry, I got off topic… blogging… the truth is, I love to write. I love to share my experiences and connect with others. Writing has always been a fun way for me to do that. When COVID hit, it affected people in so many different ways. What you saw on the news and on social media was horrific – people were dying, losing loved ones, losing their jobs, their homes… scary stuff. My life, however, did not change that much. I already work remotely so my day-to-day didn’t change. My only real adjustment was getting used to other people being home and in my workspace! The industry I work usually picks up when the economy takes a hit or unemployment is high, so I have actually been busier than ever at work. So I think part of the reason I have not been writing is that I felt a little guilty about my circumstances and talking about the sunny side of life left a bit insensitive. And of course, the other reason is that most of my blogging content is related to travel and adventure, and welp, there has not been any of that going on lately!
But now I find myself in a situation where life is going to become more idle than usual so I might as well jump back on the blogging bandwagon! This week I had a major blow out while playing tennis. I was lunging towards the ball when POP! It literally felt like someone had shot me in the leg. Knowing that the likelihood of being shot was low, I turned around expecting to see that I was somehow hit by a rogue tennis ball. When I saw that nothing was there, I knew exactly what happened. I had this same exact injury on my other leg playing intermural sports in MBA school. Immediately my mind flashed forward to being in a boot and immobile for at least 4 weeks and I was pissed. Yep, I lost my cool and totally threw my racquet in frustration. I have been working really hard at getting back in shape and had lost the COVID pounds I put on. I have been doing the Couch to 5K workout for 8 weeks, riding my studio bike, and enjoying getting back into tennis, and now it’s all coming to a halt. My teammates graciously helped me to my car and thankfully I was able to get home where John had to carry me into the house. The first night the pain was nearly unbearable. The next morning we went to the Urgent Ortho Care center where I was outfitted in a very fashionable boot. We are still waiting to get the MRI scheduled to determine the damage and how long recovery will be. Y’all this sucks. I just feel like all my effort was for nothing. I know that 75% of losing weight is diet but I just do so much better when I am doing both – it’s much more motivating. Plus since I am just sitting around, it’s so much harder to avoid boredom eating. But shoutout to my amazing husband for taking care of me and keeping this household running at full speed!
But since this blog is supposed to be focusing on the positives I guess now I have more time to blog, read a little more, and design my dream kitchen (that’s the next house project!). Also, back in January I randomly bought a pair of Michael Kors lifted sneakers which I have never worn. Well wouldn’t know, they are the perfect height to match my boot which makes it so much easier to walk (and they kind of match)! Lastly, I already had a hair appointment scheduled for today so I made sure to actually put on some make-up and asked her to do a give me a blowout, and it’s nice to leave there feeling like a human again… even if it was to just go home and sit on the couch!
So next up on the blog… Quarantine house projects… y’all, we have been very busy and I can’t wait to share the before and afters!
Keep it on the sunny side!
Injuries stink. You got this Chels!! Btw, your hair looks fab!
