The Taste of Maine

The Taste of Maine

We are officially 5 months away from saying “I Do!” In some ways our engagement feels like forever ago and in others I cannot believe how quickly time has passed! This past weekend John and I flew up to Maine and stayed at our wedding venue and met with several of our wedding vendors and coordinator. The bulk of our weekend was concentrated around food! Here is a recap of our food tour [can’t believe I doing a post about food!] – both wedding and non-wedding related:

Friday: We arrived into Portland at 5pm. I love flying into PWM – it’s such a pretty airport and so easy to navigate and get to the rental car service. The Samoset Resort where we are getting married is a little under two hours from Portland. We arrived in Rockland starving and knew that we could feed our bellies at Archer’s on the Pier. This is one of my favorite spots to eat in the summer as they have an awesome view and deck. Both of our meals were crazy good. I got the lobster mac and cheese and John got the seafood pie which was ridiculous! Since we were officially in vacation mode, I broke down and had an apple cider mimosa which was also delish!

Saturday: We got up early and had the brunch buffet at the resort. This was important to check out since we are offering Sunday brunch for our guests the morning after the wedding. It was A++

Later that day we had our menu and cake tasting. For real, I probably don’t need to eat again until July! Everything we tried was so good – it was hard to decide! So…. we decided to do all of them and let our guests choose between the surf and turf, lamb chops, haddock and scallops or vegetarian. Surprisingly, the fish was my favorite… but I will probably still get the lobster on my wedding day!

During the menu tasting we met with the coordinator and went over all the wedding weekend details. Y’all I am just so, so excited about how it is all coming together! There were some things that we talked through that we realized were not going to be feasible but the solutions ended up being even better! Helllllo late night piano bar party! We also figured out some things that we still need to consider like additional lighting and whether or not to have wedding favors? So many decisions! I also think John learned a LOT about our wedding, haha. I have tried hard not to overwhelm him with details or constantly talk about wedding stuff, so this was the first time he was hearing about a lot of it!

Right after the menu tasting we met with Darci from Sugar Tree Cakes bakery who is doing our cakes and some other tasty treats! We agreed on a custom-designed 4 tier cake, with each layer being something different. I would tell you all the flavors but I honestly can’t remember after all of the different combinations we tasted but I do know they are delicious! We also planned out the cookies and other treats for the Welcome Bags.

To recover from the sugar shock we walked down to the Rockland Breakwater to snap a few pics of the ocean and the sunset which was gorgeous.

Saturday night we met up with two of my college roomies and their husbands. We had drinks at the resort bar, Enoteca, which has been recently been renovated and looks awesome and has great seasonal cocktails!

Next we headed to Rustica downtown for Italian. I didn’t get a pic of the food but everyone raved about their dishes. I got the shrimp fettuccine alfredo and John got penne alla bolognese. Mmmm. We had so much fun and too much food and drink but it was great seeing old friends and making new memories!

Sunday: Lastly, you CANNOT got to Maine and not get an italian sub from Amato’s! My mouth is watering just thinking about it now. And John is totally hooked too!

  1. My Sweet Friend,

I am head over heels happy for you!!

I remember a time when you didn’t think you’d ever find anyone to love you and cherish you. You are such an amazing person and to see you so happy and be able to watch your planning is ridiculously fun!

Wishing you both great blessings and grace for your journey!

    Much love from Texas!

    Lori

    1. Awe, thank you Lori! You are right, I definitely didn’t think marriage or helping raise a kiddo would be in the cards for me but he was definitely worth the wait! Xoxo
