It’s been a busy couple of weeks in the wedding planning world! I have checked several things off the list. There are two types of brides; those who hate planning and get stressed out and those who love it. I am definitely the latter! Aside for a temporary issue with securing a vendor for the Sperry sail tent, it’s been pretty smooth sailings [pun intended]. Once you get the major things out of the way like date, venue, photographer and music it becomes all about the details to make it come together. This part I think is more stressful because there are just so many options, picking a theme and making sure everything flows. I love putting together events and hosting so this is right up my alley. I love going to weddings and seeing what little details the bride incorporates to make the day and the event special and unique. While Pinterest is a great place to get inspired it’s easy to get wrapped up in all the latest trends and ideas that can easily push you over budget or just end up being too much!
So far I think I have found a good balance… however, the concept of “too much” is relative because I am sure the day-of my dad or even John are going to be like, why the hell is this thing or that thing necessary? Annnnd that is why dad’s and fiance’s are on a need-to-know basis when it comes to all the wedding details π So here is a recap of my recent progress:
Wedding Shoes!! Omg, I am in love! I have been on the hunt since I got my dress in October. My dress has been kept a total secret to everyone except my mom and John’s mom which makes it kind of hard because I can’t ask my besties if they think my shoes to go with my dress? But I think they will be perfect! Without giving away too much, my dress is ivory and while you can find shoes that are ivory, the materials or shades do not always match so I knew I wanted a colored shoe. It should come as a surprise to no one that my color is blue. It took several months but my mom and I tracked down these discontinued Badgley Mischka shoes that are the perfect shade of blue, perfect heel height, the right amount of bling and most importantly, comfortable!
Officiant. Getting married in Maine, I wasn’t quite sure what we were going to do about who was going to marry us? The venue is about 20 minutes from our summer home which has been in my family for 70 years. We lucked out because the reverend at the Methodist church in our town is available and it’s the church that my grandparents went to in the summers. Plus, since my grandparents are no longer with us, I know it would mean a lot to them to have Rev. Dorr officiate the ceremony. We are flying up to Maine in a couple of weeks for our menu selections and cake tasting so we will have a chance to meet with him then. He seems like quite a character over the phone π
Monogram. Any true Southern woman knows the importance of a monogram and I love a monogram! The task of finding the right monogram that will be used in multiple ways has been so hard. So many options and wanting to find something unique and something that is neither too masculine or too feminine. As I am writing this I feel there are eyes rolling, but this is a real thing y’all! We are so close to finalizing our design and I will share as soon as I get the proofs!
Getaway Car. Y’all, I am so excited about this! Mainly because I cannot wait to get pics with my dad and with John in the car. I have to give my sweet friend Kristin a shout out because it was seeming to be an impossible task to find a proper antique getaway car in this area of Maine but she tracked someone down and I booked it right away!
There were a few other things I knocked off the list like the wedding invitations, customized napkins and bridesmaid dresses so not a bad couple of weeks of wedding planning productivity!
