The Sunny Side of Chaos

The Sunny Side of Chaos

To say that life has been chaotic lately is a bit of an understatement. Not necessarily in a bad way but in a way that felt like I was constantly swimming upstream and not making any progress. As my last post described, I have an obsessive personality and one of the things I get obsessed with is to be constantly moving and doing and go-go-go.

Six weeks ago I was working crazy hours, playing tennis 4 times a week and raising an insanely energized puppy. While on a business trip I started to get what I thought was allergies. I’ve never had them before but it’s my first spring in alabama and with the pollen count being high this year that made total sense. After a week my sneezes were replaced with a terrible cough and scratchy throat and an achy head. Week three I finally went to the doctors to be told I had bronchitis. But after three days of meds and feeling worse I found out I had waking pnuemonia. Having a serious respiratory infection three weeks before leaving to climb a really tall mountain is not good. The only way to kick it is to rest, something I’m not good at. But I was so worn down that I think slept for 3 days straight. It helped but if I’m being honest, I’m sitting in the airport in ATL on my way to Africa and I still have chest congestion :/

The days leading up to this trip many people have asked me if I’ve been training? Um. No. I haven’t done any cardio in 6 weeks. Am I stressing about it? Yes. I’m praying that my body will have muscle memory and I’ll be able to summit. The sunny side of pneumonia is that basically I’ve been training my lungs for restricted capacity. That counts, right?

While recovering from pneumonia I also decided that now was the time to lay down some roots in Alabama. The organizer of my Africa trip is also a realtor so he took me out a few times to look at some prospective homes. What started as just an idea or a maybe quickly escalated to the real deal when I found “the one.” Not being one who likes to delay things or drag on, I put in an offer and closed on my new house in 12, yes TWELVE, days! And that was just 48 hours ago!

Would I recommend buying a house 48 hours before leaving the country for two and a half weeks? Heck no! But the sunny side is I got my dream house and don’t have to worry about whether someone else bought it while I was gone and I’ll have a fun project to focus on when I get home! Like with any house, there are definitely some things that I want to change or upgrade. The first thing being the floors. Just in case I didn’t have enough to do for my trip yesterday, I also met with three contractors to get a quote on refinishing my wood floors and replacing the carpet. The timing may seem nuts but I need to get that done asap when I get home or else I’m going to have  multiple homes for longer than I’d care to!

So lots of exciting things going on all at once but all things that are making me happy. I think I’m most excited about Sully getting a big backyard to run around in (he and his momma need it!!!). As I’ve been saying, it’s Sully house and I’m just paying for it!

Dom and hygrengias… only way to properly christen a new house!
